As someone who breaks a sweat nearly every single day, I'm often asked "How the hell do you do it?"
The KEY to making it work is to have a plan, strategy, ritual and then a REWARD system. I stick to a routine and then have tons of time to reward myself with other fun things because I have already ticked my workout off the list!
This is a proven system that doesn't just work for me. It works for so many fitness professionals who instruct classes or train others and want to get a workout in themselves. These rituals, can work for you too! Here is an insight into some healthy habit you can start TODAY!
1. Prepare the night before.
Get out the door and attack your day. Get your clothes, food, gym bag and everything laid out the night before. Wake up and go.
2. Set a few alarms.
The title on my alarm is "RISE AND GRIND" which motivates me to get moving. I don't recommend going back to sleep if you set a few alarms, but you don't necessarily need to launch out of bed the first time it demands you to wake up.
3. Wake up (extra) early.
It helps to be prepared and have everything organized. What also helps, is giving yourself extra time! Time is one thing that we cannot negotiate. We all have the same amount each day. Get up extra early and try one or all of the following: meditate, stretch, shower and eat breakfast.
Drink some water to re-hydrate after your sleep. Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak chugs up to two water bottle of plain water when he wakes up. Personally, I cannot drink that much but leave some fresh lemon in a glass of water overnight to drink in the morning is my thirst quenching, natural detox.
Okay, keep reading. Eating something small when you wake up like a banana can help your body convert that sugar into energy which will provide you that buzz to start the day strong. Another option for an easy nutrient dense brekkie are these Blueberry Oat Bars. Boom.
6. Gangsta Rap.
Listen to some energizing music. See my free workout playlist here which contains a mix of everything to pump you up!
7. Drink coffee.
Especially if you plan to workout in the morning, drink some coffee before to rev you up. The health benefits of caffeine are pretty amazing so don't believe the haters who tell you to quit one of the most magical creations that exist.
8. Eat, again.
After a workout is a very important time to eat food. You can read more about what to eat here but often this meal is forgotten because people are so focused on what to eat to give them enough energy to get through the workout.
9. Turn it in early.
Set a bedtime and stick to it. There is not much that a good nights sleep cannot fix so instead of watching one more episode of your favourite show, get some shut-eye. Your body will thank you.Are you a morning person? You may find my article on 3 healthy habits before 8am useful!
10. Don't be a Negative Nelly.
When you first wake up, before you even get out of bed, think of three things you re grateful for. Start your day in positive spirits and look for opportunities throughout the day to bring you happiness instead of dragging your feet and dragging everyone around you down.
11 & 12. Believe and don't give up.
Believe in your damn self! You can do this. Talk to yourself just like you would talk to others. Take care of yourself an celebrate your wins. Don't give up. If you fall off the wagon, get right back on. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger so stay strong and be the fire.
