How do you actually steam broccoli in the microwave? I received lots of emails after posting my article about Microwaving Vegetables with people wanting to know cooking times, water amounts and weather it matters if they use fresh or frozen vegetables so hopefully this helps answer some of those questions when cooking one of my favourite vegetables - BROCCOLI :) !
This is my quick and easy method using fresh broccoli which comes out delicious in minutes!
Prep time: 1 minute
Cook time: 2 minutes
Total time: 3 minutes
- Wash and trim bunches then separate into smaller pieces, try to keep them in uniform sizes.
- Arrange the pieces in a glass or ceramic bowl and add a bit of water (no more than 2 tablespoons of water for 2 to 3 cups of fresh florets). Cover.
- Heat on high 2 to 2 1/2 minutes then check, if they aren’t quite done, re-cover and allow to sit until they’re fork tender.
Once done, strain off any remaining water.
Note: Times may vary slightly due to microwaves heating differently.
