How Learning Meal Prep Techniques Can Help You Lose Weight

If losing weight is your goal we are here to remind you that you are absolutely perfect the way that you are, but likely you aren’t here for that reminder. We get it. You want to read something for once that would actually be helpful, so let’s dive in.

Losing weight is one of the most challenging things that you can do. This is because our body actively fights against losing weight as we’re essentially burning stored energy that our body needs to survive. However, that doesn’t mean that losing weight isn’t something we are designed to do. With the right techniques and strategies, losing weight and adopting a slimmer, leaner, and healthier body can be fairly simple and straightforward.

And one of those modern techniques is meal prep. Not the typical boring white rice and chicken meal prep don’t worry. By preparing your meals ahead of time, you can take advantage of numerous benefits that will improve your nutritional intake, lower your caloric intake, and also help control your appetite. So without further ado, here are a couple of reasons why learning meal prep techniques can help you lose weight.

Meal prep leads to healthier meals

At least, in most cases! When we meal prep, we have to buy our ingredients in bulk otherwise we’re not really prepping meals. This makes us more conscious of the type of food that we’re buying and eating. For instance, it’s very easy for us to buy a microwave or oven meal for a low price, pop it into the cooking appliance of choice, and get a hot and satisfying meal with minimal work. However, we don’t really know what goes into those meals unless we check the ingredients and nutritional content.

Meal prep is different. While the end result is the same (a convenient meal that you can just heat up and eat right away) we have to be more considerate about the ingredients that we use. This leads us to buy and prepare different kinds of ingredients, often including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and leaner portions of meat just because they are easier to cook in large batches. Another great example of this is buying frozen vegetables and fruits in bulk. Preparing these fresh can be annoying if you’re planning to do a large batch of meals, which is why frozen alternatives can be such a helpful alternative.

Meal prep encourages sensible portion sizes

Meal prep encourages us to cook healthy portions of food. When we’re done using a large ground beef strainer and start separating our food into portions, we’ll notice that the huge amount of food we just cooked turns into much more manageable smaller portions. Even if you’re just preparing lunch for the next couple of days, you get finer control over all of the meals that you’re preparing because you have to cook all of them in large batches.

If you find yourself sneaking in some extra carbs and fats into your meals, then learning to prepare meals will encourage you to start cooking smaller portions. You’ll have a much better idea of how much you’re eating, you can count the calories of each meal, and you can bulk up those meals with healthy fruits and vegetables instead of carbs.

Meal prep also leaves room for snacking. You can prepare healthy snacks that you can pluck straight from the fridge for a healthy dose of calories and nutrients. Many snacks are loaded with salt, sugar, fats, and empty calories that do nothing for our bodies. Guilt-free snacking not only helps us control our caloric intake but also ensures that when we snack, we’re at least snacking on something that gives us plenty of good nutrients. This alone could help you lose a lot of weight when done correctly!

Meal prep is convenient and saves time

One of the biggest reasons why people overeat and take in too many calories is because they’re eating convenient meals that are full of bad nutrition. This can be takeout meals, inexpensive ready meals, and so on. People don’t want to cook a meal because it takes extra time, hence why they much prefer these convenient options.

However, cooking fresh and knowing what goes inside your meals can help you get a better understanding of what you’re putting in your body. This ultimately helps you lose weight while still being a convenient option for meals.

People often think that learning to cook is time-consuming and generally not worth it considering how many convenient meal options there are. Whether it’s ordering a delivery or buying a ready meal, you can certainly get by life without ever learning how to cook. However, investing just a bit of time into meal prep techniques can make your whole life a lot more convenient.

So, if you are truly ready to lose weight we encourage you to think about these techniques and give ONE of them a try. Don’t try and do them all together. One at a time, master it and then think about other techniques you can add in. To finish, you are beautiful as you are and truly, nobody cares what you weigh. Find out more about that by watching this video I made for you on why you should stop weighing yourself.
