Our guest blogger today Steffany Botchar from Hello Wellness is going to break this down for you and provide a special recipe that has become one of her all time favourites!

Steffany is making science-based nutrition simple, and creating recipes, to help you live well & feel your absolute best! I can’t wait for Steffany to share her Hello Wellness Energy Bites recipe with you today!

Let’s get into it. Turning it over to you Steffany.

Need a quick on-the-go friendly snack? These portable little energy bites are packed full of flavour, healthy fats, and protein,  to keep blood sugar balanced, energy high, and to help you stay fuller for longer. They’re quick and easy to make and can be stored for over a week in the fridge, or even longer in the freezer! Perfect for a midday snack, or before/after the gym.

The best part about these little energy Bites is that they are SO customizable! If you are nut free, simply replace the nuts with seeds and the nut butter with a seed butter like tahini or sunflower butter.

ARE ENERGY BALLS GOOD FOR ME?

Energy balls, energy bites and sometimes referred to as power balls are good-for-you-fuel, especially when you make these at home using powerful ingredients like peanut butter, protein powders, and oats.

Why do we love energy balls so much? Well, because they are a perfect snack that is so easy to make midweek or at the beginning of every week! We love energy balls that are no bake and that are packed with protein and fiber.

HOW LONG CAN YOU KEEP ENERGY BALLS?

If you store your energy balls in a sealed container in the fridge, they will keep for a week or so.

Looking to store your energy balls for a long time? Inside a ziplock bag, place your energy balls in the freezer. To thaw you can place the balls in the fridge overnight or leave on the counter for a few minutes before consuming.

DO ENERGY BALLS NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

While a refrigerator is recommended for storing energy balls, depending on the ingredients it may not be a requirement. Some types of nut butters may go soft and mushy if not refrigerated. For optimal freshness, I recommend you keep your energy balls in the refrigerator if possible.

HELLO WELLNESS ENERGY BITES
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 0 minutes
Yield: 25-30 servings depending on size

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup mixed nuts and seeds - chopped or pulsed in a food processor (I usually use almonds, pumpkin seeds, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and walnuts)

  • 3/4 cup nut or seed butter - I like to combine peanut/almond/hazelnut and sometimes coconut butter.

  • 1 cup oats (not quick oats)

  • 1 tsp honey/maple syrup/yacon syrup

  • 2 tbsp MCT oil or coconut oil melted

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla or vanilla bean paste

  • 1 scoop collagen peptides or favourite protein powder

  • Shredded coconut to taste

  • OPTIONAL ADD INs  - mini dark chocolate chips, adaptogens, protein powders

METHOD

  • Melt MCT/coconut oil, nut butter, honey, vanilla and collagen peptides/protein on the stovetop over medium heat. Mix well together.

  • Combine all remaining ingredients and mix into the warm liquid mixture. Roll into bite-size balls. If your mixture is a little dry add extra MCT or melted coconut oil. Place on a baking tray and cool in the fridge.

Optional: top with shredded coconut, or add chocolate chips right into the dough before rolling.
