Setting goals is a great idea, especially when it comes to health and fitness but wouldn't you rather set some goals this year that you ACTUALLY stick to and accomplish? By simply adjusting a few things when you set the goals you can go from the same old ordinary to EXTRAORDINARY!
Here are 5 easy tips for accomplishing your New Year's health goals:
1. BE SPECIFIC.
Change your goal from "lose weight" to "lose 10lbs by March" or "eat healthy meals" to "eat one vegetarian meal each week".
2. STEPPING STONES
Define what your action items and steps that will be crucial to achieving your goals.. Make a plan and be as specific as things like "buy a kitchen scale" or "getting a food journal".
Determine how you are going to track your progress and results. Most of the time, we are driven by the results that we see and most of us don't reach our goals because we lose the motivation. Track your results and let this fuel you to continue pushing harder as you get better. Take progress photos and/or measurements if your goal is related to body weight.
This is one of the most important pieces when setting ANY goals. Watch my video here which talks about two important fundamentals of fitness (hard work and consistency) when combined with having someone to hold you accountable is the secret sauce you need for your fitness goals. I simply cannot express how important this one is for achieving your goals. This doesn't always have to be a workout buddy or a coach. This can be someone you trust and who you can be honest with. Let them hold you accountable and notice that by simply telling someone about your goals how this changes your actions.
5. GET MOVING.
Even if losing weight, gaining muscle or working out more is not one of your health and fitness goals, exercising daily can have so many positive impacts on your overall health that this one shouldn't be treated lightly. Exercising causes your brain to release endorphins and with your energetic, positive mood you will be able to crush all of your other goals!
Another thing to keep mind during the holidays is how you are speaking to yourself in relation to food. Is your relationship with food healthy? Are you happy? If you may need to go on a "break" I would recommend reading my nine positive food messages to send yourself over the holidays post here *bonus workout included in that post*
The New Year is a great time to put your new action plan into place and by using these 5 tips above to set your goals you will be off to a great start!
